Dancers to bare all next to Swansea chapel
NAKED dancers could soon be entertaining customers in a former Swansea city centre bar.
Swansea Council has received an application for a sex entertainment licence for the old Jager bar on York Street.
The venue, which will be known as Bellissima, has been taken over by former Jager bar security guard David Bellis and his business partner Paul Thomas, who has run clubs in Bridgend.
The pair intend Bellissima to feature fully nude dancers performing in a guarded area.
They claim to be responding to a demand for a venue of this type from potential customers such as businessmen.
Mr Bellis said: "We don't feel that the subject is taboo anymore.
"Security personnel are getting asked by a lot of out of town businessmen where they can go for a table dancing club."
Bellissima will include a VIP area with a doubled-sided glass wall so customers can watch the rest of the venue but still enjoy the privacy of an exclusive dance.
Mr Bellis added: "It is going to be no expense spared luxury and hospitality.
Hospitality
"It's about hospitality these days, it's not about sleaze.
"We know footballers go to clubs in other cities.
"Privacy is going to be assured here.
"There's going to be a lot of investment going into this."
The Bellissima bosses will employ between eight and 10 dancers at the venue, which they hope could be open to the general public by mid-April with conditions of entry.
Dance
Swansea Council has permitted a planning application for a change of use for the premises from a bar to dance venue.
A church leader at the York Place Baptist Chapel next door to the venue claimed the chapel had not been contacted over the change of use or plans for sex entertainment.
Stephen Jones, treasurer at the church, said: "We would have to object to a licence for anything which we would regard as contrary to our values."
Licence
A spokesman for the local authority said it was considering an application for a sex entertainment licence for the former Jager Bar.
He said: "No licence relating to a sex entertainment establishment at this address has been approved.
"A licence application has been received and will be considered under the council's policy for licensing of sex establishments."

“Hey gorseboy, you missed one of greenparrot's spelling mistakes - it's "licensing" not "licencing". "Licence" is the noun but "to license" is the verb.
Anyway, what's wrong with having nude dancing near a chapel? They won't be dancing out on the street on a Sunday night will they?”

“By the tone of this dreary story, you'd think IBM was about to move its UK headquarters here but at the last minute changed its mind when it discovered this 'shocking' development. I can pretend to be outraged if you like.”

“sorry Stephen I did mean volition, However if that is all you can find fault with my post then I will certainly sleep peacefully to night.May be I need a proof reader to make sure every post worded correctly for you.
No Delanne. I do not believe for one Minuit that trafficking only goes on in dark out of the way places, however I do feel that if this type of entertainment is only in dark out of the way places. It would not surprise me that there is a market for this if not in Swansea its self some place close.
There have been many instances of brothels in and around Swansea so as I said in my original post.I hope that this will be a tightly monitored place as any enterprise fronting such ventures.
I have watched those documentaries that you have mentioned and I feel sorry for the people who are victims and that when they are found /rescued the places closed down. But unfortunately there will always be an element who enjoy getting their kicks from other peoples misery and a lot in authority who get back hinders to turn a blind eye.
So if you have an answer to prevent this happening please tell. Other wise all the documentaries you watch are just going to cause you to just get angry!”
