A LLANELLI dad has offered to give his garden to the council free of charge so work can be carried out to make a dangerous junction safe.

Jonathan Evans, 38, lives on the corner of Bryncoch and Dafen Road in Penceiliogi, and said something had to be done about drivers' visibility at the corner before it was too late.

The problem hinges on a retaining wall which needs to be moved back from the road, he said.

"I'm sick of people knocking on my door saying I need to cut my hedge," said Mr Evans.

"Even when my hedge is cut right back, you can't see because of the shape of the road.

"You can't see anything unless you bring yourself right out into the road.

"This is one of the worst roads in Llanelli. I worry about my kids all the time."

He added: "There's not much room on the pavement if you've got a pram or something. People have to go on the road.

"At some point somebody is going to have an accident and it's probably going to end up being one of my kids.

"If that happens I will be after blood."

Mr Evans, who is a self-employed carpenter, said the problem was not the hedge but a retaining wall behind it which was vital to holding up his house and his neighbours' homes.

He said he had looked into getting the work done himself several years ago but found out it would cost more than £5,000.

"I'm self-employed and times are very hard," he said.

"I've got no problem — if the council want to take some of this land they can have it."

A county council spokesman urged Mr Evans to get in touch to discuss the subject further.
