'Cwtsh' up for a load of laughs
EXPECT tall tales of romantic mishaps when Comedy and Cwtshes comes to Pontardawe Arts Centre tomorrow.
The St Dwynwen's Day- themed show will raise money for the Follow Your Dreams children's charity, with S4C warm-up man Phil Evans compering the show and adding some of his insights into love.

He says he isn't exactly an expert in the field of romance: "The problem I have is that I tend to speak before thinking. So I will say things like 'why do blonde women dye their roots black?' or 'why is it you can squeeze into a miniskirt two sizes too small but you can't park your car into a car-sized space?" With comments like those it may be the case that his comedy slot on the bill will last longer than his current romance, but if he gets more cold-shoulders than cwtshes, he will explain why that word should always sport an "s".
Entrenched in the world of financial services by day, Phil says his comedy skills started to emerge in school as a bit of a defence mechanism. Then it beckoned again when he was an adult.
"Performing was something I always wanted to do, so taking the leap into stand-up comedy meant that I could stop showing off in front of friends at parties and do it professionally.
"Stand-up is like doing a skydive. You have to just throw yourself into it and the worst that can happen is that you die. Believe me, I've died many times, but have more lives than a cat."
But he says, laughter is the best wages.
"I just love finding out what makes an audience laugh. It's so satisfying seeing people crying with laughter, wiping away the tears. The stronger the physical reaction from the crowd the better."
Phil shares the night with a host of other comics who are all giving their time for free, with Gary Slaymaker and Daniel Glyn on the bill.
"Gary is my writing buddy and he is one of the most successful comics on the circuit here.
Ignacio Lopez, Matt Steel, Alan Wightman and others are on the bill tomorrow, too.
Follow Your Dreams helps children with learning disabilities to explore their potential using music, drama, art and sport and the show begins at 7pm.
