COWS are still causing concerns over road safety in a Gower village — almost a decade after calls were first made to fence them in.

Villagers in Pennard have spent the past eight years calling for cattle grids and fencing to keep the cows on the common and off the roads, to prevent accidents.

They said the community was suffering because an agreement could not be reached with Pennard Golf Club over the placement of fences to ring in cattle.

Ward member Margaret Smith said an agreement had to be reached with the golf club over fencing as there was no space on the narrow country roads. "The only other route would have to be compulsory purchase," she said.

Community members, including police officers, community support officer Nadia Curry, community councillors, and commoners will now attempt to meet with the golf club and Swansea Council to resolve the issue of fencing.

“Well FM Beesley of Pennard; maybe you would like to go to London; no cows on the roads there! Stop moaning. You say cows should be in fields, well people SHOULD drive within the speed limit? Man should adjust his way of life sometimes. God forbid!”

“Cows should be enclosed in fields not roaming around cliffs and roads causing accidents this must be the only village where we have to put up with cow pats on pavements.”
