COMMUNITY councillors in Pontyberem are working to engage more with residents across the village.

Members of Pontyberem Community Council have been discussing community engagement for a number of months, and have now decided to hold surgeries each month to allow people to raise any burning issues.

The council will also invite members of the public to raise any problems for half an hour before its monthly meeting, from February onwards.

The first surgeries will be held by Andrea Gravell and Gareth Harries, at Pontyberem Memorial Hall on Thursday, February 21, from 6pm to 7pm.

Clerk, Owen Jones, told members at their meeting on Thursday that he had been advised a system of appointments was best.

But Mr Harries said: "To start it off, I would rather not make appointments to see what we're going to have."

Mr Jones said any issues with the system could be discussed in future.
