AN Amman Valley community council has decided to recognise and celebrate the achievements of young people under the age of 25 in Tycroes.

Llanedi Community Council has created a youth award named after the iconic sportsman, Terry Price, who lived from 1945 to 1993.

Hendy county councillor Steve Lloyd-Janes said: "A cash prize and a personal plaque will be awarded annually for outstanding achievements in one or more of a wide range of activities.

"These include their education, training, or occupation, the creative and performing arts, sport, overcoming personal difficulties, helping other people and improving the environment.

"Last year was a success with applicants from across the ward.

"The eventual winner was Jac Jones, from Clos Glyndwr, in Hendy."

Mr Janes added: "If you know of anyone who deserves the award for this coming year then please contact the clerk to the community council.

"He can be contacted on 01554 751059 and will provide further details on how to make a nomination."
