A NEW consultant social worker post is being created by Neath Port Talbot Council.

The authority said the move was part of wider changes to social care practices across Wales.

It will appoint an expert social worker to support and guide staff working in community care.

Head of community care and housing Claire Marchant said: "We have identified issues in terms of making sure people are working in the most modern way.

Mrs Marchant said the post would be time-limited to 18 months and would be advertised internally.

Further talks with unions will also be held.
