THE dream is about to become a reality for one Llanelli community.

These graphics show what residents of all ages in Llwynhendy will soon be able to enjoy, with regeneration work on Tir Einon Park set to begin this week.

And Llanelli Rural Council, which is funding the scheme, hopes the project will be finished by the third week of March in time for the summer.

The scheme, also supported by grants from Carmarthenshire Council, will see the rundown park remodelled with specially designed areas for young children, teenagers and adults to play and exercise.

Rural council leader Giles Morgan said: "I am delighted to announce that the long-awaited scheme to provide new equipment at the Tir Einon play area is well under way.

"The project has been identified on Llanelli Rural Council's capital programme schedule for the past four years or so to enhance the dilapidated play area that was in place.

"A tender exercise was recently completed following which the local members for the Pemberton ward consulted with the community on the proposals for the play area.

"The council has accepted the design put forward by SMP Playgrounds Limited which will appeal to all age groups — from see-saws for toddlers to keep-fit equipment for teenagers upwards."

The project is costing £138,000 in total, including £103,000 from the rural council, £25,000 from Carmarthenshire Council's collaboration fund and another £10,000 from its technical services department.

The proposals have also been supported by Llwynhendy Communities First.

Co-ordinator Lindy Butler, who is also a Pemberton ward rural councillor, said: "I am so thrilled to bits for Llwynhendy that at last we can say we are having a new park in Tir Einon.

"I have worked on this project with the community both as a rural councillor for the Pemberton ward and in my role at Communities First.

"It is a brilliant achievement for the community and will be a resource that everyone from toddlers to grans and grandpas can use and enjoy.

"The play equipment we will provide for the community will be fantastic."

Ms Butler added that a special launch event would be organised to showcase the new park.

She said: "I also thank all the residents in Llwynhendy for their contribution at the many consultation events we held for their input to the design of the new park.

"The support we have had from residents has been brilliant."
