MORE than 10 businesses in Swansea city centre have already made the most of a major building upgrade scheme — now more can benefit thanks to its extension.

Swansea Council has extended the building enhancement programme grant to cover the internal refurbishment of vacant commercial properties in the city centre businesses as well as their external makeovers.

More than £500,000 has already been handed out as part of the scheme. Businesses such as Bloomburger in Wind Street, the former Kingsway Post Office and the YMCA on St Helen's Road have already benefited.

Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "The extension means more businesses can benefit from the money that's still available. The scheme won't just cover external upgrades now — it will cover works to bring vacant floor space back into economic use too."
