CORNELLY pulled off a memorable performance to beat Margam YC 2-1 and put themselves within touching distance of the MPN Windows Port Talbot League title for the second time in three years.

The game was physical, with Margam trying their best to disrupt Cornelly's flow with some determined tackling.

However, despite Margam having a lot of possession it was Cornelly who took the lead with a wonderful 25-yard strike from Daniel Jenkins.

Cornelly started to play more good football, Daniel Jenkins and Christopher Mitchell causing problems down the flanks and often getting in behind the full-backs.

Cornelly held the lead until ten minutes into the second half, with Margam scoring a header from a corner.

Cornelly defended well and broke quickly, but time and again the Margam defence stood firm until Alan Kinsey made a strong tackle in his own area, broke between two Margam players and released Shazad Kaliq.

He picked out Richard Mason who headed the ball back across goal for Kinsey to head home the winner.

Croeserw Athletic conceded late in a 3-2 loss at home to Gwynfi United.

Athletic found themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time after two defensive errors.

Nicky Llewellyn got Athletic back into the game with two stunning strikes from outside the area.

Croeserw pushed for a late winner but found themselves outnumbered at the back as Gwynfi hit them on the break in the last five minutes, with their striker chipping it over Geraint Ferguson.

In division one, Red Dragon beat Margam YC B 8-0.

Matthew Beynon (4) led the way with Scott Williams (2) Mathew Jones and Liam Rees completing the scoring.

Porthcawl Athletic A beat Kenfig Hill A 4-1. Porthcawl dominated, though the impressive Kenfig Hill keeper did well to keep the score down.

In the reserve division, Porthcawl Athletic B won 3-0 at Baglan Dragon.

The first half was a scrappy affair and Porthcawl took the lead after a mix-up between goalkeeper and defence.

Baglan were forced into an early change as Jordan Tomlinson hobbled off with a nasty injury. The change upset Baglan's defence as straight from the kick-off Porthcawl regained possession, and a cross-shot beat the keeper to make it 2-0.

Baglan improved in the second half, but could not turn possession into goals.

Porthcawl broke well and after a dangerous cross, the ball was turned into his own net by Matthew Johnson.

Goytre United B won 5-0 at Port Talbot Tigers A. Tigers started brightly but were soon a goal down after a Goytre striker was quickest to react to follow up and score after a Jamie Grogan save.

Goytre continued their dominance and added four more, two from penalties.
