The scheme has already attracted sales despite a showhome not yet being built and is the third to be constructed by Charles Church in Swansea following similarly schemes at the Aurora development and Swansea Marina.

The brand's regional managing director for Wales, Glyn Mabey, recently confirmed an £800 million strategic plan to build 5,000 new homes across Wales with a heavy concentration on Swansea.

The Haven will include three and four-bedroom townhouses, along with a selection of contemporary apartments.

A spokesman for Charles Church said demand for the properties had already been encouraging and reservations were already being made.

Glyn said: "The greater Swansea conurbation is certainly one we will be targeting.

"This expansion will be in addition to our already strong presence in West Wales which we will continue to grow.

"We want to be very active in these areas and become part of the fabric of the communities in which we work."

Charles Church head of sales Gerry Fox said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be building The Haven development which, as its name suggests, will be a beautiful environment for people to live.

"As developments go, The Haven is one of the most exciting we will be involved with for some time and we are already receiving a great deal of interest.

"When our showhome is built at the end of the year we will expect even more enquiries as we offer a selection of desirable properties that will appeal to a huge cross section of house hunters."

Each one of Charles Church's plots will include a parking space or garage.

Hale Construction is also in the process of building 30 three and four-bedroom houses in SA1. Marketing agent Savills confirmed Hale's scheme known as Harbour View has proved extremely popular with the first nine sales reserved off-plan, and five homes already occupied.

Earlier this month the Home Builders Federation (HBF) confirmed housing planning permissions slumped to a three year low in the second quarter of this year.

An HBF spokesman said: "In Britain we are building under half the number of homes needed to meet demand.

"There are now 5 million people on local authority housing waiting lists while first-time buyer numbers have plummeted. For the past few years output has remained constant at a constrained level."

“Towards the end of the prince of wales dock the quayside juts out into the dock from what were the old coal drops. These would create ideal squares to put out tables, chairs and umbrellas to create a verdi's style outlet there and bring some life to that end of sa1. Yet all they do is build houses along there !!!!!!!!”
