Community event date for families to celebrate start of Christmas season
FIREWORKS, floats and top-notch entertainment — it's time for Llanelli's Christmas carnival.
The most popular night in the town's calendar will take place on Friday, centred around the town's Spring Gardens.
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 7pm, followed by a firework display.
An evening of live entertainment will follow, including music from Nick Skinner, Adrienne, Jay Miller, Shannon and The Action Plan.
Eurovision singer Jessica Garlick — who hails from Kidwelly — and Britain's Got Talent finalist Greg Pritchard will also perform.
A family fun day, taking place on Saturday at Spring Gardens from 11am until 5pm, will include street entertainers, performances from schoolchildren, craft workshops, and art and food craft stalls.
Carmarthenshire Council marketing and tourism manager Huw Parsons said: "We want to kick start the festive season in Llanelli by putting on a host of entertainment for families.
"This year we have decided to extend the festivities with our family fun day, which will provide more entertainment.
"We hope everyone will come out and enjoy the fun."
Businesses and groups, including Glan-y-Mor Comprehensive School, the Academy Theatre Group, Corus, Asda, Morrisons, Kite Theatre Group, Life Cymru, Llanelli Youth Theatre and Llwynhendy Samba Band, will parade on floats through the town centre, collecting charity cash along the way.
