BODIES representing patients across Wales will be strengthened following a review of the role of Community Health Councils.

Health Minister Mark Drakeford said the review of the functions and role of CHCs suggested more can be done to ensure they operate effectively and efficiently.

He said: "A major advantage we have in Wales is we still have Community Health Councils. Wales is unique within the UK in this respect. My focus now is to make sure CHCs are working in a way which is sustainable and serves the people of Wales as well as possible.

"I would like to thank members and staff of CHCs for their continuing work on the reconfiguration of health services."
