GOLDEN Globe winner Sally Hawkins has joined the cast of comedy film Submarine, which is currently shooting in the city.

The 33-year-old actress scooped the Best Actress gong for a musical or comedy film for her role in Happy Go Lucky at the awards earlier this year.

She will join Bourne Ultimatum star Paddy Considine in a leading role on Submarine.

Filming began in the city at the end of last month and is set to continue at locations across Swansea for around seven weeks, with Richard Ayoade as director.

Teen actress Yasmin Paige, best known for her role as Maria in Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, has been cast in the role of Jordana.

And newcomer Craig Roberts has bagged the leading role of Oliver Tate, the 15-year-old boy around whom the plot revolves.

The film is based on a novel by Swansea-born author Joe Dunthorne and is due for release at cinemas next year.

Noah Taylor, who has starred in flicks such as Shine and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, has replaced Michael Sheen on the project.

The Port Talbot actor was originally lined up to play the father of central character Oliver. But he quit the project before filming began and is instead working on another film.

Beautiful Boy, an independent film, is being shot in LA, where he is based.

Warp Films are backing the project alongside Red Hour Films, while Hollywood star Ben Stiller is one of the film's executive producers.

It is also being put together with help from Film Agency Wales and Film4. Bosses recently held auditions at Pontlliw Hall as they searched for extras to feature in the film.
