HUNDREDS of spectators braved the cold to watch the festive meeting of the Banwen Miners' Hunt in Neath.

The traditional event, which took place yesterday, from Castle Hotel, saw members of the party making their way on horseback through the town centre at 11am.

Hunts master Jeff Evans said due to the cold weather, the actual hunt could not take place, but members still attended to put on a show for the crowds.

"For once we did not hunt because it is too dangerous with the weather conditions, so we just held the show for the people," he said.

"But we had a fantastic turnout with the public greeting us.

"There must have been a couple of hundred people there.

"It was brilliant, everyone enjoyed themselves. There was lots of cheering.

"We had 30 horses, which is low for us, usually we have 70 to 100, but we were limited again because of the weather."

“No William, it is not 'fox chasers' that objected to your comment it is someone who objects to you calling anyone 'scum'.”

“It seems the fox chasers didn't like my previous comment

I think I must of touched a nerve pointing out that their barbaric ritual has no place in modern times

also can people stop calling them hunters, they aren't hunters, they have absolutely no hunting skill, all they do is chase dogs chasing foxes, thats not hunting, if you use a dog for hunting under no circumstances do you let the dog kill the prey”

“The world can breath a sigh of relief as the cold didn't stop the banwen hunt and their daft past time of chasing innocent animals across country.

what a joke in 2010 these clowns dress up in their riding gear and carry on in this manner.”
