CONDITIONS were ideal at Swansea Breakwater for a competition in aid of Ysgol Crug Glas special school in Swansea.

A total of 48 anglers were full of hope of catching cod, but surprisingly only one undersize codling was caught.

Chris Stephens landed a couple of small bass but the any other species prizes were won by Chris Moore, Paul Morgan and Andrew Wilson with whiting.

The main table prizes were raffled, with Martyn Wilde winning the main prize.

A total of £1,273 was raised, of which £1,000 was given to the Friends of Ysgol Crug Glas. The rest goes towards children's coaching as requested by John and Kathleen Barlow, who instigated the charity match.

Marshall of SA1 Fishing Club donated the cash for the first prize, and BAPTT shop fitters also gave a prize. Trevor Mellard and Roger Williams of Mumbles Motor Boat Club donated money for the charity.

Gower Rockhoppers stage their Winter Open at Swansea Breakwater this Sunday.

Fishing is from 9am to 1.30pm. Anglers are asked to meet at 7.30am at McDonald's in SA1. There are categories for longest single cod, longest total length and the longest single fish excluding dogfish.

The minimum hook size is four and the minimum fish size is 15cm. The reserve venue is Swansea Beach.
