Club thriving on success
AMONG the many recent achievements of Mumbles Treforus Junior Netball Club has been entering two teams into the recent West Wales U17 tournament and coming first and third.
The club entered nine teams into the 2012 Swansea Youth Summer League, with the Year 11 side winning their league, and the Year 9 teams winning division one and coming runners-up in division two, with Emily Jones being voted the best player in the Year 11 league.
At the Welsh Netball National Clubs Tournament in May 2012, the club won both the U15 and U13 tournaments, with seven players being selected by Welsh selectors as top 20 players in their age groups.
The club is well represented in both U16 and U14 county squads and the Welsh high performance hub, with five players already playing for Wales in various age groups.
The standard of netball in the club is now so high that there are three junior teams playing in the adult winter league, with Treforus Z being promoted to division two this season after winning division three last season on their first outing in adult league netball.
Mumbles Treforus was shortlisted for club of the year at the recent Welsh netball awards evening, along with coach Zoe Hill, who has been shortlisted for coach of the year for the past two years.
The club was also shortlisted at last year's Swansea Active Awards for team of the year.
The club currently has around 150 junior members as well as a strong senior section.
Training days and times are dependent on age group — Saturdays at Playfootball, Treboeth, for Years 5, 6, 7 and 8; Sundays at the LC for Year 9 and under-18s, as well as primary age with Lisa Barry.
