Seventeen people have been banned from shops and pubs in Cwmbran Town centre for a year in a joint police and trader crime clampdown scheme.

Twenty two offenders have also been arrested for shoplifting and anti-social behaviour during August in the crackdown by police and the Cwmbran Businesses Against Crime Partnership.

Crime has also dropped by 36% and anti-social behaviour incidents decreased by 20% compared to this time last year.

Traders use a radio to link with shops and pubs so that immediate updates can be given on the location of offenders for speedy arrests.
