EARLY in the new year, Swansea Council will have to make a decision about the future of Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm, which RWE npower hopes to build in the sparsely populated northern fringes of the county. It is the only 'Tan 8' site in the county. If it is not built, unlike neighbouring counties we will make no major contribution to the renewable energy resources in Wales.

A recent public opinion poll showed two-thirds of the UK public in favour of wind farms and only 8 per cent against! There is no reason to believe that Swansea is any different from the rest of the country.

Let's hope that our elected representatives can follow the majority of the public and support "clean, green energy" — not be swayed by a noisy, unrepresentative minority who frequently make up "facts" which when challenged they have great difficulty substantiating.
