City council investigation: police will give CPS file
POLICE are getting ready to submit a report over claims made against three Swansea councillors.
Leader Chris Holley, deputy leader John Hague and acting Conservative group leader Paxton Hood-Williams were reported to the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales for allegedly breaching the code of conduct.
It is claimed, the Evening Post understands, spending in certain Tory wards was offered in exchange for support of the administration.
The ombudsman investigation was put on hold while police officers decided whether a criminal investigation should be brought against the three members.
However, a spokesman for South Wales Police said: "A file is being prepared for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service and a decision will be forthcoming in due course."
Since the complaint was referred to the ombudsman there have been calls for the councillors to temporarily suspend themselves from duties.
Labour members submitted a motion to Swansea Council calling for them to step aside.
Mr Hood-Williams, ward member for Fairwood, has been suspended from the Conservative Party.
However, he is continuing as acting leader of the Swansea Conservative Councillors' Group, following Mayals councillor Rene Kinzett's resignation from the role. Mr Hague is an independent councillor.

“No wonder our city council taxes are always on the increase, for what, less services, all we seem to do is, subsidise the vast salaries and expenses of 72 councillors,
Again we the public will have to pay for this police inquiry, surely there must be a far better way of selecting candidates to represent our wards & city.”

“Bizarre! Police refer the Leader of Swansea Council & his Deputy to the Crown Prosecution Service on potential corruption & conspiracy charges and EP buries it on page 13 of the website and page 9 of the newspaper. The LibDems and their so called "Independent" cronies think its perfectly fine for these chaps to remain in office - running the Council - and collecting very large allowances for doing so - during a police investigation. It seems that the Evening Post also thinks its all fine too....”
