WALKERS will be braving the weather at Afan Forest Park on Sunday to remember a couple who died in a plane crash.

The sixth Walk for Al will take place between Maesteg Golf Club over the Garnwen Mountain to Afan Forest Park and back, from 9am.

The event raises money for the Garnwen Trust, which was set up in memory of Alex Collins from Maesteg and Bethan Jones from Porth, who were both aged 22 when they were killed in the Thai air crash in 2007.

The trust is currently raising funds to build a multi-purpose residential unit in Afan Forest Park. The specially designed log cabin will enable groups of up to 12 disabled and able-bodied people to enjoy short breaks in the park.

Alex's dad Richard Collins said they were really looking forward to the event, as they are being joined by Wales rugby star Martyn Williams.

"We are very proud for Martyn to be taking part," he said. "We are hoping it will rain itself out by Sunday."
