A SHOP in Gower is holding a blogging competition to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK.

The Disabled Shop in Llanrhidian is also donating all profits from the sales of its Alzheimer's and Care at Home product range this month.

Its managing director Jean Rasbridge said: "If research is not fully funded, many of us will be affected by a disease that is already stripping away the identity of more than 36,000 people in Wales and 820,000 across the UK. Numbers are forecast to rise significantly.

"Alzheimer's could affect you or me as easily as the next person, as it has much-loved author Sir Terry Pratchett, who is a patron of Alzheimer's Research UK."

The charity's scientists have been behind some of the most important dementia breakthroughs of recent times, relying entirely on public donations to fund the research.

"More needs to be done," said Jean. "Bloggers can help by joining our competition and helping to raise money. At the same time they can win great prizes and get publicity and recognition for their blogs."

Prizes include lifetime pro-membership of popular blog forum MyBlogGuest.
