A WELSH health charity is urging diabetics to get a free flu jab to protect them this winter.

Diabetes UK Cymru is backing the Welsh Government's campaign as people with diabetes are in the at-risk group for flu and can receive the jab for free.

Welsh Health Minister Lesley Griffiths said: "It is vital that people in the at risk categories make an appointment.

"Each year, the vaccine changes to reflect the viruses that are circulating, so just because you had the injection last year does not necessarily mean you'll be protected this year.

"You have to be vaccinated again to be protected this winter."

Cathy Moulton, clinical advisor at Diabetes UK, added: "People with diabetes are a high-risk group when it comes to getting flu, so it is crucial that they are vaccinated as soon as possible this autumn."
