Changes in scrap law
SCRAP metal thieves will find life a little bit harder today after a new law was passed.
The Scrap Metal Dealers Bill, passed in the House of Commons yesterday , will require a stricter licensing scheme for the metal recycling industry that includes tougher rules on itinerant traders and greater powers for the police.
It has been welcomed by groups including Energy Networks Association (ENA), which represents gas and electricity transmission companies. The ENA said its infrastructure is targeted on average 16 times per day.
ENA director Tony Glover said: "We are delighted that MPs have passed this Bill."
