LLANELLI'S revised school catchment areas have so far been well-received, say education bosses.

The move is in response to rising demand for Welsh-medium and denomination education, as well as changes in the population.

An open day was held at Llanelli Town Hall last Tuesday to inform parents and allow them to raise any concerns, though Wednesday's session was cancelled due to the snow.

The man behind the changes, Carmarthenshire education officer Bryan Stephens told the Star that they had been broadly welcomed.

He said: "The parents I have met through the governing bodies have been positive."
