Change of responsibility in council for community benefit fund
A COMMUNITY benefit fund which is to be divided between Glynneath and Onllwyn is now being looked after by a different council boss.
Responsibility for the Maesygwyn wind farm community benefit fund has been transferred from the head of planning, Nicola Pearce, to the head of partnerships and community development Russell Ward.
Planning permission was granted for the Neath Valley wind farm in 2008 subject to a section 106 agreement which includes a payment of £175,000 per year for 25 years.
The agreement requires community councils in Glynneath and Onllwyn to submit funding applications to the authority.
The transfer of responsibility is aimed to reduce costs and to ensure a consistent application of best practice across the county in relation to fund management.
Of the 15 turbines applied for 13 were approved and are now operational.
