LEARNERS at a Swansea Council Day Centre which supports people with mental health issues are changing lives by becoming teachers.

One of them, Rob Bevan, has now signed up for a Masters degree course as well as teaching car mechanics to people at Cwmbwrla centre.

Rob said: "I'm not well myself but when it was suggested I start up a group to study car mechanics I went for it."

Centre co-ordinator Carol Hughes said: "We've got so many people coming into the centre who have so many other skills."

Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, councillor Mark Child, praised the budding teachers. "Some people referred to the centre have experienced a point in their lives when just getting out the door is a significant challenge. So to get themselves to the stage where they are teaching others is a fantastic step."
