Celebrations at park for centenary
SWANSEA AM Mike Hedges has praised organisers of the Morriston Park 100th anniversary celebrations.
A day of entertainment has been organised at the park tomorrow to mark its centenary.
Mr Hedges, AM for Swansea East, will be officially opening the event at 1.30pm and ahead of the event urged everyone to come along and enjoy the festivities.
He said: "I am delighted to be attending Morriston Park's centenary celebration event this Saturday with members of the local community.
"Local parks, like Morriston, provide an important role in communities throughout Swansea.
"They not only serve as a place to go and take up social activities, whether it be to walk the dog, play sports or meet friends, but can also help to enhance community interaction and cohesion in an area.
"It's important that we celebrate the landmark centenary of this much-loved park in order to say thank you for all the years of service it has provided to the local community.
"I would like to thank all of the organisers, including the Morriston Chamber of Trade and Communities First programme, for planning this event and would encourage everyone living in the area to come along and join in with the celebrations this Saturday."
Among those taking part in the celebrations will be Morriston Ladies Choir and local youth music group Curfew FM. There will also be various attractions for children on the day.
