SOUTH Wales West AM Peter Black has given a cautious welcome to Virgin Media's proposal to develop its Swansea call centre into a UK customer management centre of excellence.

"This will safeguard 600 of the 680 jobs in Swansea," said the Swansea-based Lib Dem AM. "However, until the fate of the remaining 80 staff in Swansea is clear, it is only possible to give this news a qualified welcome.

"This will be a worrying time for these 80 people and their families."
