Her husband Michael was also raving about the win to reporters on the red carpet.

He said: "Swansea's won, haven't you heard? Very happy."

Catherine along with Welsh songstress Shirley Bassey took to the stage at the 85th annual Academy Awards in Hollywood.

The theme of the ceremony was musical theatre and Catherine opened up the musical tributes with a performance of All That Jazz from the 2002 musical adaptation of the popular Broadway show Chicago. It was a 10 years ago when the 43-year-old won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2003 for her part in the movie of the musical Chicago, playing Velma Kelly.

The actress along with Bassey chatted back stage with reporters with Bassey praising her fellow Welsh star for her performance.

"What a dancer," she said. "I taught her everything she knows!"

Catherine had said she was nervous about singing live so she prepared with a back up track just in case.

Speaking afterwards she said it was something she has not done in a long time.

"I have done charity performances but nothing like that with the 24 dancers," she said.

She was also reunited with her Chicago cast mates Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger and Queen Latifah to present an award.

Bassey performed Goldfinger nearly 50 years since she first recorded the song for the 1964 Bond film of the same name.

She said it was the "greatest" thing to be back on stage.

In response to British singer Adele winning the best song Oscar for her Bond tune Skyfall she said: "Wonderful. I am so glad she won."
