Mr Jones said: "Ireland is a close friend of Wales and the Welsh Government is determined to see our excellent relations continue and thrive.

"The economic future of our two nations is irrevocably linked – a strong, growing Irish economy is good for Wales, especially as the country is our second biggest export market.

"We have a number of Irish owned businesses in Wales and Irish visitors make up a significant number of those who visit our country. It is crucial for Wales that we maintain and strengthen government, business and commercial links with Ireland."

Today the First Minister will address the inaugural conference of the British-Irish Chamber of Commerce
