Carway pupils impress with bake-off skills
VISITORS to Ysgol Carwe last week could have been mistaken for walking into a professional bakery when pupils took part in a bake-off.
Following the theme of global gourmet, pupils from across the school baked and decorated an array of spectacular cakes as part of the competition.
The youngsters came up with the idea after watching the Great British Bake Off — and their creations could have rivalled those seen on TV.
Class teacher and assistant head teacher Carrie Rees said: "They were fantastic — I couldn't have made them myself.
"They wrote letters to local baker Alison Johnson, who owns Alison's Bespoke Cakes, and she came in to do a masterclass on how to decorate them.
"When we did the final versions, she came back in to help them with their ideas.
"She guided them along, but they did them themselves."
The youngsters' work was then presented to a team of judges, who scrutinised the look and taste of the cakes, as well as the pupils' presentation videos and handmade cake boxes.
There was just half a point in it, but the winner was declared the jungle-themed 'Lemon and Lime Lush' cake, decorated with chocolate flakes, a money and lion.
