FIREMEN rescued an elderly woman from her Llangennech home after a fire broke out in the kitchen.

The woman, aged 87, was taken from the house in Hendre Road following the fire at 11.26pm on Monday.

The woman was given oxygen therapy by the fire service after the rescue.

Fire crews from Llanelli and Pontarddulais used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.

Two thermal imaging cameras and a positive pressure ventilation fan were also used.

The woman received treatment in an ambulance, and a male neighbour was also treated for smoke inhalation.
