Carmarthenshire Council say it is confident that meat supplied to schools and care homes in the county is not contaminated.

After launching its own investigations when the horse meat scandal was first announced, Carmarthenshire Council says it can now reassure parents and residents that all meat suppliers have provided the full authenticity and traceability of meat products provided to the authority.

Philip Davies, head of public protection, said: "There is no question of any contamination to our meat supply, which I am sure people will find reassuring.

"As soon as this issue came to light, we immediately contacted our suppliers to ask them to review their sources of supply and production to ensure that there were no links whatsoever with any of the companies thought to be implicated in the fraud."
