Campus barrier not put in place to fence in beach visitors
A new fence around the site of Swansea University’s second campus is not to prevent walkers getting to the beach, bosses have confirmed.
Concerns about access have been raised by Coedffranc councillor Keith Davies — but a Swansea University spokeswoman said the fence is a health and safety measure while the works are taking place.
Signs will also be put in place to direct people around the fence and to the nearby beach.
Work has now started on site — which is located just off Fabian Way — where steel frames can be seen rising from the ground.
Mr Davies said he had failed to get to the beach because of the new fence.
A Swansea University spokeswoman said: “A fence has been erected around the science and innovation campus site as a health and safety measure while the works are taking place and the construction team will shortly be installing fixed signs to direct people to the beach. Once the development of phase one is complete people will be able to walk through the campus.”
