Camper vans in convoy to show support for April Jones
AS the search continues for April Jones, the people of Carmarthenshire will be showing their support with a convoy of VW camper vans tomorrow.
Volkswagens of all shapes and sizes and decorated with pink ribbons will be driven from Cross Hands to Aberystwyth to help raise funds for the April Jones fun.
The convoy, which is expected to include more than 20 decorated VW cars and vans, is due to set off from the Cross Hands Leekes car park at 12.30pm on Sunday.
Those joining the fundraising journey will be selling balloons along the way to raise money for April Jones's family.
Jason Young, from Llandeilo, who organised the event, said: "There is a group of us who want to raise funds for the cause and we also want to raise awareness of April."
Mr Young also said those taking part in the convoy would be releasing around 100 balloons when they reached their destination, Aberystwyth's Promenade car park at 2.30pm.
The fundraising journey has received the help of businesses in Llandeilo, with Nice Price Papers donating balloons to the cause and Pinc Florists giving the ribbon.
Mr Young said: "It is very close to home and this is something that people can do to help.
"It is a cause close to my heart. I have a ten-year-old and an 18-year-old and I don't know what I'd do if something happened to them."
April went missing in her home town of Machynlleth on Monday, October 1, and people from across Wales and the UK have helped the emergency services in their search to find the five-year-old.
Carmarthen fundraiser Val Newton was due to be collecting money for the cause today, by taking donations to Morrisons supermarket in Carmarthen.
David Jones, Secretary of State for Wales, said: "I wanted to take the opportunity to extend my thanks to each and every member of the Dyfed-Powys Police team who have shown tireless dedication and professionalism throughout this difficult case."
Mark Bridger, 46, appeared in court on Wednesday accused of abducting and murdering April, and of unlawfully disposing of and concealing her body with intent to pervert the course of justice.
