The robbery happened at around 7.50am on Saturday.
South Wales Police detective inspector Darren George, of Swansea CID, said: “We have today released images of the suspect.
“A man has entered the shop and despite two brave attempts by the shopkeeper to prevent him from getting away with property, he has managed to get away with the cash register from the counter.
“Fortunately, the shop worker was not injured but she was left shaken by the incident.
“I would appeal to anyone who can assist in identifying the suspect from the images to please come forward. It is also an appeal for information from anyone who was in the area at the time of the offence or who may have seen the suspect or the getaway vehicle to come forward.”
Police have released a description of a man they want to talk to.
He is described as being white, around 6ft 2in tall, aged in his mid-30s, with a “dark complexion” and of slim build. He was wearing a dark grey-coloured hooded top and a black jacket.
On Sunday officers recovered a grey Mitsubishi from Nicander Parade, Mayhill, which is being linked to the robbery, and they are urging anyone with information about the vehicle to come forward.
