Côr Ysgol y Strade new record supports Llanelli Peony Breast Care Unit
A LLANELLI school choir is supporting cancer care at Prince Philip Hospital after the death of the mum of one of its young choristers.
Côr Ysgol y Strade has pledged its support to the Peony Breast Care Unit at Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital.
In September, the Star announced that the unit would be the newspaper's charity of the year – and support is already rolling in.
While the unit is close to the town's heart, for Year 8 Ysgol y Strade pupil Carys Worth it means an awful lot.
In January, she lost her mum Debbie to cancer.
Carys sings with Côr Ysgol y Strade, and on November 27 the choir will be releasing its new CD – Mae'r Môr yn Faith.
Choir conductor Christopher Davies said: "For every copy of the new CD sold, £1 will be donated to the Peony Breast Care Unit at Llanelli Hospital.
"This is in memory of the mother of one of our choir members who sadly passed away at the beginning of the year."
The CD will launch with a special concert at Llanelli's Diplomat Hotel on Wednesday November 27.
Tickets for the night cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.
On the night, the choir will be performing a number of the songs from the new album.
The album contains a combination of 10 well known and original songs, including Annie's Song, Anfonaf Angel, Libertango, and Hello, Goodbye.
For £11.50 you can get your hands on Mae'r Môr yn Faith – knowing that for every CD sold, £1 will go to the charity.
Conductor Mr Davies said: "We were keen to support a breast cancer charity and the Peony Breast Care Unit at Llanelli hospital provides a first class service to hundreds of women in our local community and beyond.
"We hope, with the support of Llanelli Star readers to raise a significant amount of money for this wonderful unit."
It has been a very busy year for Côr Ysgol y Strade.
In March, the choir reached the semi final of the 2013 BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year competition.
Shortly after, it crossed the Irish sea to complete in the Pan Celtic Festival – taking 2nd place in the open choral competition.
"To finish 2013 by releasing a new CD is the icing the cake, Mr Davies said.
He urged people to support the worthwhile cause and recommended Mae'r Môr yn Faith as a very special gift idea for a Christmas present.
