The Bumbles of Mumbles and winter chills
THE chill winds of February were causing such havoc with the weather — that even the Bumbles of Mumbles had taken to wearing their seaweed scarves every day, trying to keep the chill of the wind out when they were up and about their business on the shores of Oystermouth Beach.
Lillypop had been busy making a hot seashell soup for their dinner that night, even she was wrapped up warm when she joined Dearlo and Toggler as they gazed out over Swansea Bay.

Dearlo turned to Lillypop saying, "There still doesn't look like any let up on the icy conditions!"
Toggler sighed as he said, "If only this bitter cold wind would stop!"

Lillypop shivered as she replied, "Never mind, I've made us some really hot seashell soup for later and that will warm us all up!"
Toggler felt a bit warmer at this news, but then his face fell when Dearlo suggested they climb to the top if Mumbles Hill and check that all wildlife who lived up there were coping and safe.
Toggler tried to get out of the jaunt up the famous hill, but both Lillypop and Dearlo knew the walk would warm them all up, but when they reached the top of Mumbles Hill, there was a shock for them all. As they saw all the local rabbits and birds having a wonderful time sliding over the iced up pond water. There was even some frozen snow left over from the last snowfall.
It was Lillypop, who at first was the most concerned, for she realised beneath the ice that had formed on the pond, would be the fish and wildlife that lived in the pond. Turning to Dearlo she said,
"The fish must be very concerned not to be able to relish living in the water, without the freezing ice covering them up!"
Toggler fell to his knees on the frozen ground and tried hard to break up some of the ice, but to no avail, it was frozen solid. As he tried to break the ice he could see a flurry of movement beneath and could see it was the fish who lived there, but there was no way for them to break out and sample some fresh air.
Dearlo quickly summed up the situation and stressed to the rabbits and birds who were having great fun sliding on the icy pond, that it was essential that they would have to break the ice up, but how?
It was then Dearlo Bumble had a great idea, clicking his fingers, which he always did when good ideas came to him said,
"Everyone stay here! While I go and hopefully get some first class help to break up the ice."
