Building firm's thanks for AM
CONSTRUCTION firm Taylor Wimpey has thanked AM Byron Davies for intervening over Swansea Valley housing plans.
Mr Davies asked Welsh Government Housing Minister Carl Sergeant what was happening to the company's application to build 56 homes on land at Godre'r Graig.
Planning consent had originally been granted to a different developer for 70 houses at this site. The land was then bought by Taylor Wimpey, which submitted a new application in 2012.
Mr Davies said that as a result of planning law changes, Neath Port Talbot Council had to notify the Welsh Government of this application because it was within a flood area.
The Tory AM said the Welsh Government wanted more time to consider the application, but that Taylor Wimpey had staff ready to start work two months ago, and that it had already sold houses off plan.
"I raised the issue with the minister and I am delighted to say that he has decided there were no issues to warrant intervening and the matter has reverted to the council," said Mr Davies. "As a result, the development is going ahead."
