Budd strikes to secure victory for Swansea Ladies hockey
A SECOND-HALF strike from Kat Budd was enough to earn Swansea Ladies hockey team a 1-0 victory over Oxford Hawks in their latest match in the Investec Women's Hockey League Conference west division.
Swansea enjoyed plenty of early possession and moved the ball well to create some good attacking opportunities.
However, the Hawks defended their 25 well and after a couple of breaks won the first short corner of the game. The corner was well defended and the score at half-time was 0-0.
A cagey start to the second half led to a lot of play happening between the two 25s. As the game settled down some excellent attacking and defensive transitions meant Swansea continued to look solid in defence and threatening going forward.
Oxford were struggling to manage the Swansea threat and it was the home side who struck when a fast-paced exchange of passes between Budd and Carys Hopkins left the Oxford defence chasing the ball, with Budd converting impressively.
Oxford started to apply pressure as they tried to find an equaliser, but more organised Swansea defence shut them out.
The victory has lifted Swansea to third in the table.
