Bride spends night in cell
IT should have been the happiest day of her life, but a Swansea bride's big day ended with a wedding night in the cells after allegedly attacking a bouncer with her shoe.
Swansea Marina couple Sharon Verallo — formerly Mrs Sharon Elizabeth Hancocks — married Nicola Hutin at a ceremony at Swansea register office on Friday.
But although the day began well, it ended with the new Ms Sharon Hutin allegedly involved in an attack on a bouncer at her reception — using her bridal shoe as a weapon.
One of the guests at the wedding spoke to the Evening Post after the wedding.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "Some of the guests were very drunk and spoiled the service, and I thought at one point that the registrar was going to have to stop the ceremony.
"Both of the brides were really upset."
The wedding party moved on to Champers Wine Bar on High Street, which the couple had hired until 11pm for their wedding reception. "Everyone just ended up getting very drunk.
"An argument broke out and it all kicked off.
"The bouncer was just trying to do his job," added the guest.
Lee, promotions and events manager for the Champers Wine Bar, praised the doorman, who was sent to hospital for a check-up.
He said: "The bouncer's okay.
"As far as I'm concerned he did his job 100 per cent, and the guests just got out of control."
Barred
Lee said problems started when the doorman tried to move the wedding guests on, as the club had to be open at 11pm.
He said: "They just didn't want to know."
Lee added that those allegedly involved have been barred from the premises.
A spokesman for South Wales Police confirmed the incident had taken place.
He said: "Police can confirm that a 40-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of assault at Champers Wine Bar, High Street, at about 11.20pm on Friday, August 21.
"She is currently on police bail pending further enquiries."
