Brendan Rodgers closes in on new three-year Swans deal
BRENDAN Rodgers plans to make Swansea City a long-term Premier League force as he closes in on a new three-year Liberty Stadium contract.
Swansea's up and coming manager, who turned 39 yesterday, hopes to put pen to paper on his new deal over the weekend after holding further talks with chairman Huw Jenkins this week.
-

The fresh agreement is good news for both parties, as Rodgers can plan for the future at the Liberty while Swansea will have greater protection if another club comes calling for their boss.
"I have had another good meeting with the chairman and everything is agreed in principle," Rodgers revealed ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup trip to Bolton Wanderers.
"It was clear to me all along that I wanted to be at Swansea, so there was not a lot to discuss.
"Hopefully now we can get the paperwork sorted out over the weekend, and my job then over the next three years will be to make Swansea City a sustainable Premier League club.
"The challenge when I first came in was to get promoted.
"We managed that and, having arrived in the Premier League, we've shown this season that we can compete.
"We are riding high at the moment and our football has been superb, but the objective this season is still to stay up and, if we do that, it will be a monumental achievement.
"If we can stay up we will have more money to invest in the club and in the team, and hopefully we will be able to build from there.
"We will then aim to make this a sustainable club at the top level."
Rodgers is currently working on the one-year rolling contract he signed when he first took charge in the summer of 2010.
The Northern Irishman's stock is rising all the time, so tying him to a longer-term deal was an obvious step for Swansea to take.
There are not many clubs who would have a chance of tempting Rodgers away from SA1 just now, but having a greater compensation clause in his Swansea contract is a shrewd move from the club's owners.
Rodgers, meantime, has revealed that Josh McEachran will make his full Swansea debut this weekend — against a club who were keen on his signature.
The on-loan midfielder is ineligible to face parent-club Chelsea next Tuesday so will start in a reshuffled Swansea side tomorrow. "If you speak to Josh I'm sure he will tell you that he is absolutely loving it here," said Rodgers, who would not have made changes if Swansea had a clear week after Bolton.
"He has adapted very well to being here, but it will always take a bit of time to adjust because he has not played first-team football for a long time."
Vice-captain Alan Tate will also be part of the Swansea squad after five months out with the broken leg he suffered in a golf buggy crash.
"Alan has worked very hard to come back and he is a wonderful professional," Rodgers added.
"He was outstanding for me last season and he did very well at Manchester City at the start of the season. He was just so unfortunate to get injured in a freak accident."
Tate's return to the fold is well-timed given that Tottenham have again refused Steven Caulker permission to play in the cup.
As of next Wednesday — when the transfer window is closed — Spurs will not have the power to recall Caulker before the end of the season.
But up until then, the Londoners are being ultra- cautious in case they pick up any defensive injuries.
"Tottenham have to be careful," Rodgers said, "but if we get through and Steven is with us beyond this month, he will be able to play in the next round."

“Not worth the paper it written on except for compensation when other teams coms knocking as they will.
What is Brendan now on at Swansea £40k a week maybe less, what would you do if offered 80k
by another club.”

“Heaven forbid that we would have a Whinger or Surly as our figurehead.I'm delighted that we have a winning gentleman. The aforementioned should squirm with embarrassment when they see the way in which Brendan conducts himself. It is obvious to all that he has a fantastic future in front of him,and I'm sure whatever heights he attains,he will remain a dignified man;one to look up to.The fact that he is about to commit himself to our cause, also delights me.”

“It's what we wanted, and It's what we got. thanks to HJ for making the deal a reality. Let's just hope that Brendan continues to enjoy his football here and not get poached by the big boys. I think we could see another Wenger or Fergie on our hands. A long shot, but why not, who ever imagined we would have come this far from where we started, and we are continuing to steadily grow. It's a joy to be part of a special group that only others can wish for. STID always”
