Brendan Rodgers: Swansea City's Danny Graham can stake England claim
BRENDAN Rodgers reckons England’s new manager will have to take notice if Danny Graham keeps on firing for the rest of the season.
Only one Englishman has scored more Premier League goals this season than Swansea’s leading marksman — Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

Danny Graham
Rodgers believes 12-goal Graham — ten of those strikes have come in the league — could hit the magical 20 mark before the season is out.
And he says such a feat would be enough to thrust him into contention for a place in the England squad for this summer’s European Championship.
“Danny has been fantastic this season,” Rodgers declared. “And I have always said I think he is right up there with the top English strikers around.
“If he continues to work the way he has been working, you never know what could happen with Euro 2012.
“If he is going to be up around 15 or 20 goals by the end of the season, which I feel he can be, then he will be one of few English players who has achieved that.
“He has played regularly too, so certainly it will be interesting to see the England squad at the end of the season.”
There were question marks raised about Graham’s Premier League potential as he failed to find the target in his first six Swansea appearances.
But Rodgers always maintained the £3.5 million former Watford man would find his feet at the top level and he has since proved his manager right.
His Swansea goals have come in just 22 starts and four substitute appearances since he arrived in Wales last summer.
“His strike rate in the Premier League is near enough one in two and at this level that is superb,” Rodgers added. “Danny is a player who wants to score goals.
“He works very hard on his game and he is what I would describe as a player of dominance for us.
“By that I mean someone who really affects games. Danny does that by scoring goals and through his physical presence and his intensity for the team.
“Teams are made up of many different types, but the successful teams have a list of dominant players, and Danny is certainly one of those.
“I think he will continue to flourish because, as he has proved, he does not need many chances to score a goal.”
Graham netted a double against Norwich in Swansea’s last outing, and has three goals in two games ahead of next Sunday’s trip to Stoke.
“He is a player who has great character and he will not get carried away by any attention he receives,” Rodgers continued.
“All he can do is keep doing what he has been doing — playing well and working hard.
“If he does that, the natural consequence will be that he gets goals because when he gets chances, he usually puts them away.”

“Unfortunately there's an Idiot born every day, and you ICladius are one of them. Jimmy_Blue and 1johnE you are both spot on with your comments, Danny Graham is a quality striker who will succeed in the Premier League for a long time, and we can only hope that it is with the Swans.”

“£15m you're having a laugh. As for representing England.........don't make me laugh. He's a championship player at best who's having a great season in the top flight. One season wonder.”

“His ability was blatant from day one. His intelligence both on and off the ball were a sign of a player easily capable of playing Premier League football. Only the sadly quite numerous morons amongst the support who almost cherish a new striker going a couple of games without scoring so they can start whining about him thought otherwise.
He's done fantastically well for us so far this season, especially considering the lack of a decent creative midfielder behind him for the most part.”
