THOUSANDS of consumers have pledged to avoid Welsh dairy products following Assembly Government plans to press ahead with the slaughter of badgers in parts of Wales.

Campaigning animal group Viva!, which claims the policy aimed at curtailing the spread of bovine TB will not stem the disease, has said more than 2,000 people have signed up to the boycott.

And it claims growing numbers supporting the campaign could end up costing the Welsh diary industry more than £1.5 million annually.

Viva! campaigns manager, Justin Kerswell, said: "There is also growing anger that Welsh wildlife will be exterminated in parts of the country to prop up a failing dairy industry.

"The science tells us that killing badgers won't stem the spread of bovine TB, yet the slaughter has now been rubber stamped."

“Why does the Evening Post give space to these people without checking their real intentions?

This protest has nothing to do with culling badgers. Viva is not a campaigning animal group. Check out their website.

Viva stands for "Vegetarians International Voice for Animals" and they are based in England.

They want to stop us eating any meat or dairy products, so it's in their interest to destroy the Welsh dairy industry.”
