Book review: Wildlife Monographs - Living Dinosaurs
WE probably have Richard Attenborough to blame for the plethora of dinosaur books about these days.
His Jurassic Park films encouraged a new generation of dinosaur-fascinated kids and adults.
But while this has to be a good thing, educationally, it is nice to have a book put before me which deflects attention to what is around now, rather than then.
And this book bridges the gap between the genres perfectly, looking, as it does, at today's 'living dinosaurs' – the Reptilian creatures that roam our land.
The book is part of a series written and illustrated by some of the world's leading photographers.
In it, Heather Angel guides us through the varied Reptilian life we find on Earth, from crocodiles to Iguanas, turtles to lizards.
The photos are superb, capturing some unusual angles and moments in these creatures' lives. And the words are not just descriptions of said reptiles, but include their history, how they adapt to changes in their environment, how they are feared or hunted, and many other factors.
Put shortly, it's a great read, with some great photos for anyone with even just a passing interest in wildlife.
Wildlife Monographs - Living Dinosaurs is written and illustrated by Heather Angel and published by Evans Mitchell Books.
