AFRICA is all sandy ground, yellow grasses, and brilliant blue skies – right?

Not according to Alain Pons. He prefers to see it in black and white, and he wants to share his vision with everyone.

So the one-time graphic designer turned renowned wildlife photographer decided to link up with naturalist travel writer, documentary maker and producer Philippe Huet, to produce this book of black and white images of Africa.

The book takes us on a journey from the eastern African savannahs to the bushlands of the southern regions.

Incredible scenes are captured, scenes of drama and calm, frenzy and tranquillity.

Each is accompanied by brief words which endeavour to explain what it is you see.

But, really, the images are enough. The black and white does to seem to jar a little with what you expect to see in Africa, the colour you know is there. But it does add a reflectiveness to the photos which are quite sensational.

Impressions of Africa, by Alain Pons and Philippe Huet, is published by Evans Mitchell Books
