The body of a man found washed-up on a beach in Hampshire has been identified as Swansea man Eric Williams.

Mr Williams's body was found on Hayling Island by a member of the public on New Year's Day.

Hampshire Police launched an appeal to identify the man, who was believed to have been in the water for up to a week.

His family has been informed and police have confirmed his death is not believed to be suspicious

Hampshire Police said in a statement: "Eric Williams, 60, of Dillwyn Road, Sketty, Swansea was found deceased by a member of the public on the beach near to the junction of Southwood Road and Bosmere Road at around 8.56am.

"Mr Williams’s family has been informed. His death is not believed to be suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner."
