A PRIMARY school which was gutted by fire last summer will be able to get back on the pitch thanks to the help of a rugby charity.

All of Betws Primary School's sport equipment was destroyed by the blaze in June last year.

Now thanks to the help of the SOS Kit Aid charity, pupils will be able to get back on the rugby pitch again.

John Broadfoot, founder of SOS Kit Aid, said: "Thousands of young people across the UK who want to play cricket and rugby are unable to because they don't have kit.

"After a tough six months for staff and pupils, we are delighted to be able to help the staff and pupils of Betws Primary School with this kit donation and ensure they get the opportunity to once again enjoy the sports they love."

Pupils will receive the kit tomorrow during a special presentation at the LV = Cup match between the Ospreys and Harlequins at the Brewery Field, Bridgend.

The fire at the school in Bridgend happened when a table fan overheated.

SOS Kit Aid is a joint venture between The Lord's Taverners and SOS Kit Aid and is supported by the International Rugby Board (IRB).

The scheme has seen schools, clubs and the public donate their unwanted rugby and cricket kit to disadvantaged children.
