SOMETHING strange has been spotted in the night sky above Swansea and Neath.

Several people have reported seeing glowing orange balls hovering and then disappearing at speed — and they are demanding an explanation.

One man was so baffled he got in touch with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and he has received a response from one of its directors of staff.

The Post has received phone calls about the bizarre sightings after an article on Tuesday, which reported Mumbles man Colin Hopkins seeing a 10ft glowing ball drifting over Swansea Bay last Friday evening.

A stunned David Williams, of Briton Ferry, saw the article and went to speak to Mr Hopkins before contacting the Post.

He is adamant he saw three orange lights when he was driving home from Spar, in Briton Ferry — but this was on Saturday evening, not Friday.

The 42-year-old remains absolutely flabbergasted.

"I was driving home, and on my right there was an orange sphere," he said.

"It was pulsating, about 100ft up. I had no idea what it was.

"I got out of the car, and asked a young couple walking along the road if they saw it as well.

"The young man was taking video footage with his camera.

"Then two elderly gentlemen came along with a camera and started taking pictures.

"One of them said he'd seen it hovering above his garden.

"The orange glow had white light emanating from it," added the father- of-two.

"Then it accelerated upwards. I was about to drive off when one of the men said: 'There's another one coming'.

"It was amazing. It went to the exact place as the first one, and started rising.

"Then a third one came and followed the same trajectory. They had incredible acceleration."

Mr Williams then went home, got his camera out as the lights were still visible and contacted the MoD.

Mumbles man Mr Hopkins said two people had been in touch with him about similar versions of what he saw.

Explanations could be floating Chinese- style lanterns, or disco lights.

Another man, David Humphrey, of Neath, has also got in touch with the Post.

He was sitting with his wife at home on Saturday night when a glowing light, then another, drifted across the sky about 500 metres in the air.

He filmed what he saw, and took photos.

"There was absolutely no sound," he said. My neighbour has seen the footage — he couldn't believe it," said Mr Humphrey.

Military aircraft have been flying in South Wales as part of a Nato exercise, but RAF community relations officer Peter Sinclair said: "It's highly unlikely to have been any activities to do with these exercises."

The MoD added: "There is no evidence that airspace has been compromised by hostile or unauthorised air activity."

“There was six of us in our car travelling to The Coombe barton Pub in Crackington haven, Cornwall, UK, last night and we saw a huge orange ball travelling across the sky. I stopped the car and we just watched it. It was quite big even though it looked a way off and it came from west to east and it was bright orange with no visible trails of any colour behind it. The night was deathly quiet and there was no noise whatsoever for the duration of about 5 minutes where we just sat and watched it. It travelled across the sky in a straight line at speed and then cheanged direction and veered right and disappeared into the distance. We thought it was a meteorite at first but it seemed to travel in a controlled manner which would rule out a shooting star or meteorite!! We also thought of a private or military aircraft, but there was no sound at all even after the globe disappeared.
Can't even come close to a rational explanation to this and there is nothing in the media about it yet?”

“Tonight between 10.05pm and 10.17pm, saw the same thing 6 bright orange balls in diamond formation and the formed a cluster and stayed stationary for a minute and then separated and faded away simultaneously. No noise, no flashing and moved independently, definitely not Chinese lanterns. Posted report and pictures on www.sightings.com. There have been over 20 reported sightings in Uk and Ireland of the exact description according to this website. Would love to know what it was.”

“Just put in search for orange bright lights in sky and came across the story. At approx 9.50 pm n 8/5/2010 I also saw 3 bright orange objects and thought at first glance they were low flying helicopters but then realised they were totally round and glowing. Two were quite close together and were going in the direction of going over my premises and expected them to be at the front of the bungalow but when I got there they had vanished and I went back to the back garden where I had seen a 3rd one trailing behind and it was still travelling then shot up in the air at great speed till it vanished. Both I and my husband saw it as I shouted him to come and see what I was looking at.”

“I saw some fast moving orange lights tonight about 9.30; there were 2 over the bay at Porthcawl and later 1 over Morriston.”
